Only Trump Can Force Russia to Agree to a Ceasefire in the Air Over Ukraine — Sibiga

A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly could result in a ceasefire with Russia. This could involve both a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure and ensuring security in the Black Sea, though Russia is not yet willing to agree to this.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, the Ukrainian side is ready for such steps, but the Kremlin has not yet shown any interest, so it is the U.S. government that is in a position to push Moscow toward a decision.

The diplomat noted: “We are preparing for a meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, and I believe that one of the main outcomes of this meeting could be the achievement of a ceasefire.” The official emphasized that international support is needed to end the war, and that Russia understands only pressure.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry made these remarks in a comment to “RBC-Ukraine.”

Trump claimed there was an alleged agreement between Ukraine and Russia not to attack energy infrastructure, but this turned out not to be the case.
