People are walking up to 30 km as they flee the occupied towns of Oleshky and Hola Prystan

Russian occupiers have effectively cut off the residents of Oleshky and Hola Prystan in the Kherson region. It is extremely difficult to leave these towns, but out of desperation, people are still trying to flee the occupied territories.

The humanitarian situation there remains extremely dire. It has become particularly critical since around March. Cases have already been reported in these communities where people have died due to a lack of food.

Is it possible to leave Oleshky and Hola Prystan?

As Virlich emphasized, the Russians have not delivered food or medicine for several months. At the same time, they have mined the access roads to both towns. Therefore, the only way to leave Oleshky and Hola Prystan right now is to walk out. This is also dangerous, as the Russians refuse to allow an evacuation. There is no “green corridor.”

People are trying to leave. To do so, they walk at least 20–30 kilometers to the nearest community, where they can at least rest. From there, they travel through occupied Crimea and Russia to Belarus, from where they can continue onward. There are huge numbers of Russian troops, checkpoints, and so on, the journalist noted.

At the same time, not many locals dare to leave. Many are exhausted and not ready to embark on such an arduous journey. In addition, this requires money, which is also a problem.

Yevheniia Virlich, a journalist from Kherson, spoke about this on Channel 24.

About 2,000 people remain in Oleshky.

The Ukrainian military used drones to deliver about 4 metric tons of food to residents of occupied Oleshky. The humanitarian aid was distributed among 100 designated locations in the city.

In occupied Oleshky, about 2,000 people are left without food and water.
