The SBU detained a soldier whom Russia had recruited through a dating site

In the Kharkiv region, the SBU detained a mobilized serviceman who, according to the investigation, had been recruited by Russian intelligence agencies via Telegram channels designed for finding romantic partners.

According to the case file, the man, a native of the Dnipropetrovsk region, served as an assistant UAV operator. The Russians contacted him through a fake female account and gradually obtained information about Ukrainian units.

The soldier, according to the SBU, passed on data about his reconnaissance battalion and adjacent units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Vovchansk direction. Ukrainian counterintelligence officers secured the military’s location in time and detained the informant near the training ground.

During a search, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with Russian intelligence services was seized.

The detainee was notified that he is suspected of illegally disseminating information about the deployment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces under martial law. He faces up to 8 years in prison. Authorities are also considering whether to additionally classify his actions as treason.

According to the investigation, a Russian agent planted a homemade explosive device in a trash can near one of the government buildings. He then used a messaging app to inform his Russian handler that the mission had been completed.

Earlier, the SBU’s counterintelligence unit detained a Russian military intelligence agent in the Donetsk region who was guiding guided aerial bombs and strike drones in the Sloviansk area.
