Magnetic Storms: What Will Solar Activity Be Like on July 7–8?

From July 7 to 8, the geomagnetic situation on Earth will remain calm. According to the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), low levels of solar activity are expected on both days.

According to the forecast, geomagnetic activity on July 7 and 8 will have a K-index of 1.7, corresponding to the green level. This indicator signifies weak magnetic activity that does not fall into the category of strong geomagnetic storms.

It should be noted that magnetic storms with a K-index of 5 or higher are considered strong. In contrast, readings from 1 to 4 are insignificant and usually have no significant impact on the operation of technical systems or the well-being of most people.

At the same time, solar activity forecasts may change, as the data is updated every three hours. Therefore, experts recommend staying informed, especially for people who are sensitive to changes in the geomagnetic field.

Magnetic storms are caused by solar flares, during which streams of charged particles are ejected into space. Upon reaching Earth’s magnetosphere, they can cause geomagnetic disturbances of varying intensity. During strong storms, disruptions in satellite communications, navigation systems, and radio communications are possible, as well as the observation of the aurora.

On days of increased solar activity, some people may complain of headaches, fatigue, irritability, or fluctuations in blood pressure. To maintain well-being, doctors recommend sticking to a regular sleep schedule, drinking plenty of water, avoiding excessive physical exertion and stress, and spending more time outdoors.

As a reminder, several periods of solar activity are expected in July 2026, which may affect the well-being of weather-sensitive people and the operation of electronic devices.
