The Murder of Anastasia Berezovskaya: A GUR Officer and Another Suspect Have Been Served with Notices of Suspicion

The Office of the Prosecutor General announced that two individuals detained in connection with the murder of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya have been charged. They are charged with premeditated murder committed by a group of individuals acting in concert (Article 115, Part 2, Paragraph 12 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, Berezovska was killed after returning to Ukraine by bus. It is known that on July 1, she arrived in Ukraine following an attack on her family in Monaco, and on July 2, law enforcement authorities in the principality issued an international arrest warrant for her on suspicion of involvement in that crime.

During the investigation, Ukrainian law enforcement identified her circle of contacts and travel routes. Among those questioned were a former law enforcement officer and a current employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to investigators, they had previously transferred funds to Berezovska’s bank and cryptocurrency accounts on multiple occasions.

During urgent investigative actions, one of the suspects confessed to the murder and implicated the other suspect. Following a reenactment, law enforcement officers discovered the victim’s body.

The issue of imposing a preventive measure in the form of pretrial detention without the option of bail on both suspects is currently being decided. The Ukrainian side has already shared all available information with Monaco’s law enforcement agencies and continues to cooperate on the case. Efforts are also underway to identify possible masterminds and other individuals involved in the attack on the family in Monaco.
