Ukraine national team head coach Andrea Maldera summed up the Nations League match against Georgia, which ended in a 0–0 draw. After the match, the head coach of the “blue-and-yellows” first and foremost expressed his support for the Ukrainian people and responded to the shelling of Kyiv. Maldera noted that he would like to embrace the capital after the night it had endured.

Before analyzing his players’ performance, the Italian coach expressed solidarity with the people of Kyiv. He responded to the latest enemy attacks on Ukraine’s capital. On Monday, the Russians once again targeted a number of sites in the city.

“Before talking about the match, I’d like to send my support to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, which today came under bombardment by the terrorist state of Russia. Our hearts are with the people of Kyiv and Ukraine right now,” Maldera said.

The Italian coach described the match itself as challenging. The “blue-and-yellows’” performance was affected by extensive rotation. The coaching staff made 10 changes to the starting lineup compared to the previous match.

“It was a tough match. It was difficult to put together a team with so many changes. Our opponent respected us, so we had to play with discipline today. The team showed character and fought hard on the field. Now I’m focused on the next match,” said Maldera.

The Ukrainian national team has earned four points in two Nations League rounds. At least for now, the “blue-and-yellows” have taken sole possession of first place in Group 2 of Division B of the tournament. The team, led by the Italian coach, will play its next match on October 2 against Northern Ireland in Trnava, Slovakia.
