The mayor of Berehove responded to Madyar's statements regarding the oppression of the Hungarian community
During a meeting with Péter Magyar, the winner of Hungary’s parliamentary elections, Berehove Mayor Zoltán Babiak stated that there is no evidence of any infringement of the rights of the Hungarian national community in Ukraine.
He announced this on his Facebook page.
According to Babiak, the Hungarian community in Ukraine, like other national communities, receives state support at all levels.
“There is no question of any infringement of the rights of the national community, as these issues have been regulated by the state and implemented in practice. Systematic work and dialogue are ongoing at all levels regarding specific issues affecting the Hungarian community that require resolution,” he noted.
The mayor also stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “is personally overseeing these issues,” which, according to him, is evidenced by meetings with community representatives.
Babiak emphasized that significant funds are being invested in the communities where Hungarians live in Zakarpattia to develop infrastructure, and that the education and culture sectors are funded from the state and local budgets.
He added that representatives of the Hungarian national community hold leadership positions in government and local self-government bodies.
“Ukraine has adopted important legislative decisions that now ensure the rights of Ukrainian Hungarians in education, culture, daily life, and other areas of community life,” the mayor concluded.
Earlier, Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian “Tisa” party, initiated a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and proposed holding it in the city of Berehove in Zakarpattia.
Hungary’s nearly former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced his resignation from his parliamentary seat. However, he expressed his willingness to continue leading the Fidesz party if the party congress supports his candidacy.
Recall that the Hungarian government has accused the social media platform Facebook of political bias against Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Despite Orbán’s ban, Ukraine will receive 90 billion: IPA President Galina Heylo on the EU’s plans to finance the country.
