The Ministry of Energy is implementing urgent measures to stabilize the power grid due to the abnormal heat
Due to the abnormally high temperatures sweeping across Europe, Ukraine’s power grid is under critical strain, so the Ministry of Energy has initiated a series of measures to prevent power shortages.
To ensure stable operation during peak periods, the minister has instructed the relevant agencies to optimize the maintenance schedules for the power units at nuclear power plants.
This will allow for an increase in electricity production precisely when demand is at its highest.
At the same time, energy officials must complete emergency repair and restoration work at thermal power generation facilities as quickly as possible to bring back online equipment with a total capacity of at least 300 MW.
Significant attention is also being paid to utilizing the capacity of cogeneration plants, particularly those powered by natural gas.
In addition to domestic generation, the government is developing mechanisms to increase electricity imports from European Union partner countries.
State-owned enterprises have been instructed to step up their efforts in this area to further support the power system’s balance during the heatwave.
Another tool will be the use of energy storage facilities, which will add approximately 300 MW of capacity to cover peak loads.
These measures are aimed at minimizing the impact of external climatic factors on the country’s vital functions.
This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
