The Ministry of Defense explained what awaits soldiers upon their return from the Special Military Operation
A service member’s return to a military unit after leaving without permission does not automatically mean that their service is resumed. A corresponding order from the commander is required to resume service.
The ministry explained that if military service has been suspended, the service member may not be assigned to either routine or combat duties until the commander issues an order to resume service.
“Returning after unauthorized absence does not mean automatic continuation of military service,” the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Service members whose service has been suspended are relieved of their posts, do not perform military duties, and are not counted as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations.
Upon a service member’s return to their unit, their service must be resumed in accordance with the procedures established by law. Only after the issuance of the relevant order may the service member be reassigned to perform official and combat duties.
Additionally, once the extension of service is formalized, the service member’s pay, benefits, and social guarantees are reinstated.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the agency, in cooperation with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has strengthened oversight of compliance with this requirement.
