Copper Prices Are Rising Again: How Much Can You Get for Scrap Metal in Ukraine?
Last week, the price of copper reached new record highs, but it was unable to hold at those levels for long. One of the reasons was the anticipation of new U.S. tariffs, which led traders and industrial buyers to actively stockpile the metal on the U.S. market.
What’s happening in the market now
The situation has stabilized somewhat, as the White House has decided not to rush into imposing new tariffs, particularly in the run-up to the midterm elections. At the same time, as of Wednesday, September 16, prices rose again amid anticipation of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision on future monetary policy.
As a result, copper prices rose 0.7% midweek on the London Metal Exchange, reaching $14,186 per metric ton. Other commodities were no exception: aluminum gained 0.8%, and nickel rose 1.6%.
How Much Does Scrap Metal Cost in Ukraine
The industry-specific resource Metalolom.biz calculates the approximate cost of scrap metal based on current purchase prices at collection points in various regions of the country. As of September 16, these prices are:
- pure copper – 481.36 hryvnias per kilogram;
- copper cable – 400 hryvnia per kilogram;
- copper shavings – 398.75 hryvnia per kilogram;
- copper radiators – 348.12 hryvnia per kilogram.
The EU has waived export duties on aluminum scrap due to concerns over a deal with India.
