In the Odesa region, sunflower yields exceeded those of the previous five years
The average sunflower yield on Tekom Agro Group’s farms in the Odesa region this year exceeds the figures for the previous five years.
The sunflower harvest is underway at the company’s farms in the Odesa, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, and Podilskyi districts. According to Naumchuk, yields vary depending on the location of the fields, but weather conditions in 2026 allowed for a “good, consistent harvest.”
At the same time, the hybrids’ full potential was not realized. During the grain-filling period, there was a lack of moisture amid elevated temperatures, resulting in slight underfilling of the grains in some areas. Meanwhile, the pollination rate of the flower heads is 95–97%.
The oil content of the sunflower seeds is currently a few percentage points below baseline levels, while the seed yield is close to the baseline. The company plans to determine the final figures after the harvest and post-harvest processing are complete.
In the south of the Odesa region, sunflowers are being harvested at the baseline moisture content. However, at Yasni Zori LLC in the north of the region, seed moisture content varies across individual fields.
“So, in some places we’ll perform desiccation, while in others our elevators will have to do a bit of work on the sunflower crop. We’ll draw the appropriate conclusions about how each of the selected hybrids performed this year, particularly in terms of seed filling,” Naumchuk noted.
According to him, after processing and storing the harvest in warehouses and grain elevators, the company will be able to assess the extent to which the results achieved justify the costs incurred.
