The Ministry of Defense has clarified who will be eligible for the new 10,000 hryvnia bonus
The Ministry of Defense has clarified the procedure for calculating the new rear-area supplementary allowance of 10,000 hryvnias per month. This payment will serve as the minimum guaranteed allowance for members of the Defense Forces who are actively serving but are not performing combat duties on the front lines.
Taking into account their basic pay, the minimum monthly pay for military personnel serving in the rear will be 30,000 hryvnias.
The relevant changes are provided for in Resolution No. 768 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, adopted on June 12. The document introduces an updated model for contract service and a system of pay for military personnel.
However, the resolution does not revise the current amounts of basic pay or alter the mechanism for calculating it. Instead, it introduces a new system of additional payments for the completion of tasks, which will operate in parallel with existing types of compensation.
The rear-service allowance will be paid in proportion to the time spent performing service duties to all those who do not receive other allowances such as 30, 50, or 100 thousand hryvnias.
There are several reasons why the rear-area allowance is not paid:
- being on leave with pay—for the duration of the leave;
- assignment to the discretion of commanders or dismissal from posts (except for temporary performance of duties);
- assignment to military training units for training;
- assignment to the rotating roster of reserve units and reserve companies.
The rear service allowance is also not paid to cadets at military training units and military educational institutions;
The rear-area allowance is the minimum guaranteed level of additional compensation for all personnel who are actually on active duty, regardless of whether they have a contract. Exceptions will be made for service members who are stationed at a unit temporarily or for training purposes.
The amount of other additional payments, in accordance with Resolution No. 768, depends on the area of operations and the conditions of service.
