More than 8 million hryvnias were embezzled during the construction of protective structures for the Zmiiv Thermal Power Plant

Law enforcement officials have notified the director of a concrete supplier and the construction site manager of a contracting firm that they are under investigation in a case involving the embezzlement of more than 8.1 million hryvnias during the construction of protective structures for the Zmiiv Thermal Power Plant in the Kharkiv region.

According to the investigation, during the construction of shelters for autotransformers at a critical infrastructure facility, a lower-grade concrete mix was used instead of the high-strength concrete specified in the project. To conceal this, false information regarding the quality of the materials was entered into the documents.

Investigators determined that the construction site manager was aware that the concrete did not meet the project requirements, yet he accepted it and signed the necessary documents. Subsequently, the certificates of completion stated that the construction was carried out using materials of the required quality.

An expert examination confirmed that some of the structures did not meet the project requirements. According to the investigation’s estimates, the amount of damages exceeds 8.1 million UAH. The prosecutor’s office will seek to have the suspects taken into custody.
