A man was arrested in the Kharkiv region after attacking police

In the Kharkiv region, a man suspected of attempting to rob a store attacked police officers while fleeing. According to law enforcement officials, he threw an explosive device at a police vehicle and opened fire on the officers.

The attacker was detained. The police officers sustained injuries, and the man has already been notified of the charges against him.

 

The incident occurred on the night of June 8 in Balakliya, Kharkiv region. According to police, officers were pursuing a vehicle driven by a man suspected of attempting to rob a local store. The police ordered him to stop, using flashing lights, sirens, and a loudspeaker. However, the driver ignored all demands and continued to flee.

Police report that during the chase, the man resorted to even more dangerous actions. According to preliminary data, he threw an explosive device at the police vehicle. He then began firing at the police officers. “While continuing to flee the pursuit, the driver threw an explosive device at the police vehicle and opened fire on the police officers,” the regional police department reported.

 

As a result of the explosion, law enforcement officers suffered acoustic trauma. These are injuries caused by the impact of the blast wave and loud noise. Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported. Experts are currently determining exactly what type of explosive device the attacker used.

 

Despite dangerous resistance, law enforcement officers managed to quickly apprehend the man. He turned out to be a 26-year-old resident of the Izyum district. Police noted that he already had a criminal record for serious crimes. After his arrest, the man was taken into custody in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of violating Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—attempting to take the life of a law enforcement officer. This is one of the most serious charges in such cases. If the man is found guilty in court, he could face up to 15 years in prison. The investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and the origin of the explosive device used during the attack. This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Police.
