Fraudsters who defrauded people under the guise of charity were exposed in the Kyiv region

The Kyiv Regional Police, in collaboration with the cyber police and the TacTeam special unit, uncovered a criminal group whose members posed as representatives of well-known charitable organizations to swindle money from citizens.

The perpetrators conducted live streams on TikTok and other social media platforms, falsely representing the Olena Zelenska Foundation, the UNITED24 platform, the “Come Back Alive” Charitable Foundation, the Red Cross, and UNICEF.

The suspects used social engineering techniques and phishing websites to defraud at least 15 people, including members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The scammers lured victims into revealing their personal financial information, showed them forged payment documents, and forced them to make “test payments” to their accounts to supposedly verify their cards. After receiving the funds, the accomplices deleted the fake accounts, live streams, and correspondence, and the total amount of damages exceeded one million hryvnias. Law enforcement officials have already conducted 21 searches of the suspects’ residences and vehicles, seizing physical evidence of their illegal activities. A pretrial investigation is currently underway in criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and those detained face up to eight years in prison.

This was reported by the Kyiv Regional Police.

In Kryvyi Rih, police uncovered an international fraud scheme in which the participants posed as representatives of a major metallurgical giant and defrauded foreign companies of nearly 7 million hryvnias. The perpetrators entered into fictitious contracts for the supply of metallurgical products and embezzled the funds received.

A 11.5 million hryvnia scheme: a National Guard accountant will stand trial in the Kyiv region.

The State Bureau of Investigation has announcednew charges against a former official from Mykolaiv.
