A man tried to bribe a border guard at the border
At the “Smilnytsia” border crossing, servicemen of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment uncovered an attempt to offer an improper benefit. A 55-year-old resident of the Cherkasy region arrived at the checkpoint to leave Ukraine but did not have the necessary documents to cross the state border.
The man apparently attempted to resolve the issue of his departure by offering an illegal bribe to a border guard.
After being informed of the reasons for being denied passage, the man tried to “resolve the issue” in another way—he placed 300 euros under his documents, hoping to influence the border guards’ decision.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine adheres to a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
The border guard refused the improper offer. A report was sent to the National Police regarding the detection of signs of a criminal offense under Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Offering, promising, or providing an improper benefit to a public official”).
Since the beginning of 2026, service members of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment have refused unlawful benefits in 324 cases. The total amount of bribes offered exceeded 1.4 million hryvnias. The funds were offered in both hryvnias and foreign currency.
