An official from the Uzhhorod Tax and Customs Office was arrested for taking a bribe

An official from the Uzhhorod Territorial Recruitment Center was detained while accepting a bribe. In exchange for the money, he was supposed to help resolve an issue with the military medical commission.

 

In Uzhhorod, a military servicemember from the local recruitment and social support center was detained for accepting a bribe. The Military Recruitment Center promised to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure an impartial investigation.

Vitaliy Glagola, a member of the Uzhhorod City Council, reported the official’s detention on Thursday, September 3.

“The State Bureau of Investigation, together with the police, detained a military serviceman from the Uzhhorod Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center, Denys Makarinsky, born in 1992. He was caught red-handed while receiving $5,000,” the politician wrote in a Telegram post.

According to Vitaliy Glagola, the money was intended to help resolve an issue with the military medical commission so that the man would not be mobilized and could leave the recruitment center.

“At the same time, the investigation is looking into more than just this incident. The case files also mention possible abuse of power or official authority by military officials at the Uzhhorod Regional Military Recruitment Center and the extortion of illegal benefits from other men brought there,” the deputy added.

On Friday, September 4, the State Bureau of Investigations informed ZAXID.NET that it was preparing an official statement regarding the incident. At the same time, the Transcarpathian Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support confirmed the detention of a military servicemember from the Uzhhorod Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support on suspicion of accepting a bribe.

“We are doing everything we can to assist law enforcement agencies and are providing full cooperation to ensure an objective investigation. Law enforcement agencies will provide a legal assessment of the detainee’s actions, and the final decision will be made by the court,” reads a statement from the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center.
