In Mykolaiv Oblast, an SUV fell off a bridge, injuring five children

A major traffic accident involving a large number of minors occurred in the Mykolaiv region near the village of Voronivka in the Voznesensk district. A car carrying six passengers, driven by a young driver, lost control on the roadway, veered off the bridge, and fell directly into a body of water. 

This was reported on its official Facebook page by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.

The accident occurred on May 31 at approximately 12:50 p.m. According to preliminary data from law enforcement, a 19-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV and lost control of the vehicle while driving. As a result of the vehicle falling into the water, seven people sustained injuries of varying severity: the driver himself, a 40-year-old passenger, and five children aged 9, 11, 12, and 15. All victims were promptly hospitalized at the nearest medical facility for a detailed examination and treatment.

Currently, police officers are working at the scene to determine all technical and organizational causes that led to the accident. Investigators have preliminarily classified the incident under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which governs liability for violations of traffic safety rules. This article provides for a penalty of up to three years of restricted liberty; however, police noted that based on the results of further investigation and medical findings, the traffic accident may be subject to additional legal classification.

Earlier, the case of a judge from Kryvyi Rih, who struck an 11-year-old boy at a crosswalk, was referred to court. The child suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition.
