Akhmetov spoke about his contacts with Zelensky – The Guardian

Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s wealthiest man, said that he last met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the eve of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to the businessman, there is no conflict between them, as the president is aware of his presence in the country and his contributions to supporting the defense effort. 

Akhmetov made this statement in an interview with The Guardian.

The businessman’s last meeting with the president took place on February 23, 2022, in Kyiv during an official conference of big business representatives. Akhmetov emphasized that Zelenskyy demonstrated courage and a strong character when he refused to leave the capital in the early hours of the Russian invasion. He added that the country has held out thanks to the resilience of the people, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, international support, and the actions of the head of state, who is doing everything possible to protect the country’s sovereignty.

The businessman also recalled that on the eve of the major war, he promised journalists that he would remain in Ukraine under any circumstances, help the army hold the line, and support the civilian population. Akhmetov emphasized that he has fully kept his word, as he has not left the country once since the Russian invasion and continues to finance humanitarian and military projects.
