In the Odesa region, a caregiver is suspected of torturing a pensioner with an iron
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained a caregiver who, during a conflict, burned an 84-year-old woman in her care with a hot iron. The woman has already been notified that she is suspected of torture.
The incident occurred several days ago in one of the villages of the Lyman community in the Rozdilna district.
According to the investigation, the suspect lived with the 84-year-old woman and her 52-year-old sick daughter, providing care for them. During a domestic dispute between the elderly woman and her caregiver, the latter intentionally caused burns to the victim with a hot iron.
After the incident, the 84-year-old woman turned to a neighbor for help, who called for medical assistance. The victim is currently in the hospital and receiving the necessary treatment.
According to the forensic medical examination report, the woman sustained minor bodily injuries in the form of first- and second-degree burns on her arms, chest, and abdomen.
Investigators detained the suspect and notified her that she is suspected of committing torture under Part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty for this offense is up to six years of imprisonment.
By court order, the suspect was placed in pretrial detention with the option of posting bail in the amount of 166,400 hryvnias.
Law enforcement officials are continuing the pre-trial investigation and establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
