In the Odesa region, work has begun on the forced filling of the Katlabug Reservoir with water from the Danube
In the southern districts of the Odesa region, efforts are underway to replenish the Katlabug Reservoir with water from the Danube River. A total of 39.5 million hryvnias has been allocated for this work out of the 45.5 million hryvnias provided for under the State Target Program for Comprehensive Water Supply to restore the Katlabug and Kytay reservoirs.
The need for water replenishment arose due to a record heat wave, which caused the reservoir level to fall below the dead storage mark. This posed a threat to the region’s ecological balance, the population’s drinking water supply, the irrigation of agricultural land, and the operation of pumping stations.
Specialists from the Izmail Water Management Department have already inspected the progress of work at the pumping station of the Suvorov Irrigation System, and preparations are underway to fill the neighboring Kitay Reservoir.

In Transcarpathia this summer, river water levels in the lowland part of the region have dropped to 25% of normal. This applies, in particular, to the Latorica, Uzh, and Tisa rivers, according to Natalia Platonova, head of the meteorological research department at the Transcarpathian Center for Hydrometeorology.
As a reminder, due to the arrival of an abnormal heat wave, Ukraine may face a significant increase in electricity consumption. According to forecasts, the load on the power grid could rise by approximately 1 gigawatt, creating the risk of a return to hourly power outage schedules.
