Ukraine and Canada have agreed to a 100-year strategic partnership
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney signed a declaration marking a 100-year partnership between the two countries. The document calls for deeper cooperation in the defense, economic, and technological spheres.
One of the key areas will be the joint production of weapons. Ukraine and Canada plan to jointly manufacture unmanned aerial systems, counter-drone systems, electronic countermeasures, and ammunition. They also plan to bolster this cooperation through scientific research and technology transfer.
The countries will work on planned procurements of jointly produced goods, as well as on the creation of a Defense, Security, and Resilience Bank. Separately, the parties intend to expand trade and investment under the updated free trade agreement.
In addition to defense, Kyiv and Ottawa will deepen cooperation in the areas of energy security, critical minerals, industry, and forestry. More active cooperation is also planned in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, space, biotechnology, and digital governance.
Zelenskyy reported that during the meeting, the parties also discussed financial support for Ukraine for this year and next. Karni confirmed Canada’s readiness to contribute its own technologies to the European anti-ballistic missile program FREYJA.
The president also announced additional defense supplies from Canada. According to him, Ukrainian and Canadian teams are already working on the “Drone Deal” and expect to reach a full-fledged agreement in the near future.

Canada imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods totaling 27.6 billion Canadian dollars, or approximately 20 billion U.S. dollars. The measures took effect on Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. local time.
In Canada, the Trans Mountain pipeline reached full capacity for the first time in June, and its operator plans to increase capacity by another 300,000 barrels per day. Most of the additional volumes are expected to be shipped across the Pacific Ocean to Asian markets.
