In the Odesa region, embezzlement of ₴8.4 million intended for military housing was uncovered
In the Odesa region, the director of a construction company has been notified that he is suspected of embezzling 8.4 million hryvnias during the renovation of housing for military personnel.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police.
According to the investigation, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract with a private firm to renovate barracks into a 39-unit apartment building for military personnel and their families.
However, according to law enforcement, the company’s director entered false information into documents regarding the scope of work and expenses.
As a result, out of approximately 11 million hryvnias allocated for the project, nearly 8.4 million hryvnias were embezzled and transferred to the accounts of the suspect and affiliated companies.
He is charged with embezzlement on an especially large scale and official forgery.
The penalties under these articles provide for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
Charges have been filed against top SBU officials who “protected” amber mining operations.
