Sentence handed down to mother who embezzled nearly 4 million hryvnias in benefits intended for her son, a soldier

The Rivne District Court has partially granted the claim filed by soldier Dmytro Panchuk, who sought the return of funds accumulated during his three years in captivity.

This was reported by “Suspilne.” According to the ruling dated April 13, the woman must pay her son 3,894,000 UAH, as well as reimburse court costs amounting to over 14,000 UAH.

The conflict became public after the soldier returned from Russian captivity. It turned out that all this time, his mother, as his closest relative, had been receiving his monthly allowance (about 125,000 UAH), but after his release, she refused to hand over the money. According to the soldier, his mother claimed that the payment amounts were significantly lower, and later evicted him from the apartment altogether, which led to the lawsuit.

The court adjusted the amount of the claim in accordance with official data from the military unit. The decision will take effect in 30 days unless the defendant files an appeal. This incident occurred against the backdrop of large-scale state programs to support veterans and Ukraine’s signing of strategic security agreements with Germany, while the Russian economy officially entered a systemic recession under the pressure of military spending and sanctions.

We previously reported that a court case is ongoing in the Rivne region regarding over 4 million hryvnias in payments to serviceman Dmytro Panchuk, which his mother, Lyudmyla Panchuk, received during his three-year captivity in Russia and refuses to return.
