Firefighters continue to battle a forest fire in the Carpathian region: the blaze has engulfed 1,700 square meters
In the Kalush District of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, rescue workers are continuing to fight a forest fire that broke out on July 5. The total area affected by the fire is approximately 1,700 square meters, and strong gusts of wind are complicating firefighting efforts.
According to rescue workers, a report of a forest floor fire came from the village of Stankivtsi in the Vytvytska territorial community of the Kalush district. The fire has spread to several separate hotspots.
Thirty-one rescue workers, four pieces of specialized equipment, and forestry workers have been deployed to extinguish the fire. A drone is being used to monitor the situation and determine the boundaries of the fire.
So far, emergency responders have extinguished two fire pockets covering a total area of 700 square meters. The largest fire pocket, covering 1,000 square meters, has been contained. Work to fully extinguish the fire is ongoing, and the situation is under control.
The agency reminded the public that in hot and windy weather, even a minor source of fire can lead to a large-scale blaze. Unauthorized burning of dry vegetation is subject to administrative penalties and, in some cases, criminal liability.
This was reported on July 6 by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.
