An agent of the Russian intelligence services who recruited a 17-year-old girl was exposed in the Carpathian region
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a lieutenant colonel in the Russian special services has been notified of his status as a suspect; according to the investigation, he recruited a minor to gather intelligence on targets in Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a career officer in the Russian Armed Forces, registered in occupied Crimea. He is charged in absentia with collecting information constituting state secrets for the purpose of transmitting it to a foreign state.
In 2025, using an online job search platform, he recruited a 17-year-old local resident for espionage activities.
According to the investigation, the girl recorded the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, gathered information on critical infrastructure facilities—including the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant—and transmitted geolocated materials via Telegram.
She was promised a reward for completing her tasks, part of which was paid to her bank card.
In January 2026, the minor was detained while carrying out another assignment. She is being held in custody without the right to bail, and an indictment under the article on treason has already been sent to court.
Earlier in Khmelnytskyi, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian agent who was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in the city center, according to the SBU press service. The explosion was to occur at a location where Ukrainian military personnel were gathered.
Prior to this, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attack in the capital and detained an FSB agent who was planning to blow up one of the leaders of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented another terrorist attack in Kharkiv by detaining a married couple of Russian agents who were preparing an explosion in the city center.
As a reminder, the SBU detained a Russian strike coordinator targeting Chernivtsi.
The SBU also exposed a Russian intelligence network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
