The case involving the deaths of five Ukrainian soldiers in the Izyum region has been referred to court
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment against a 37-year-old man accused of treason, which led to the deaths of Ukrainian servicemen during the occupation of part of the Kharkiv region in 2022.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the defendant worked as an assistant to the forester at the state enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” and began collaborating with Russian military personnel during the occupation of the Izyum region.
According to the investigation, he had gained the trust of territorial defense fighters, helped them navigate the forested terrain and showed them routes, assisted in setting up Ukrainian military positions, and passed on information to the occupiers about the movements and locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units.
In April 2022, according to the case file, the man led a representative of the Russian Federation to Ukrainian military positions and helped install a hidden surveillance device.
He later informed the enemy of the group’s planned departure and indicated a route which, according to the investigation, was used to set up an ambush.
On April 17, 2022, a vehicle carrying soldiers came under attack; 5 soldiers were killed, 2 were wounded and taken prisoner, while the others managed to retreat.

The investigation also established that during the attack, the defendant was alongside Russian soldiers and subsequently assisted them with logistics and navigation.
Later, a photo of him alongside wounded Ukrainian soldiers appeared on a pro-Russian Telegram channel.
In January 2026, the man was detained in Spivakivka. He is currently in custody. He is charged with treason committed under martial law.
As a reminder, a border guard from the Dnipropetrovsk region will stand trial for organizing a scheme involving fake disability claims and attempts to illegally send men abroad.
Additionally, the Industrial District Court of Dnipro found a man guilty of assaulting a representative of the territorial recruitment and social support center and fined him 1,700 hryvnias.
The SBU detained two aides to sitting members of parliament who are suspected of organizing schemes to evade mobilization for money. According to the investigation, they offered forged medical documents and illegal travel abroad, receiving tens of thousands of dollars in return.
