In Sumy Oblast, authorities uncovered a scheme involving illegal deferrals from mobilization based on court rulings

Law enforcement officials have uncovered a scheme involving the illegal issuance of deferrals from mobilization through court rulings in the Sumy region.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, a scheme was operating in the Konotop City and District Court that allowed conscripts to obtain rulings regarding the alleged disappearance of their wives or their sole responsibility for raising minor children.

Such rulings were subsequently used as grounds for exemption from military service, obtaining deferments, and traveling abroad.

According to the investigation, the lawyer sought out conscripts seeking to avoid mobilization and initiated the relevant court proceedings using false information.

Once cases were filed, they were, by prior arrangement, assigned to a specific judge who issued rulings without proper verification.

To ensure the “desired” distribution of cases, participants in the scheme filed, withdrew, and refiled applications, thereby influencing the automated case assignment system.

Investigators identified at least 21 instances of such rulings.

A judge of the Konotop City and District Court, a lawyer, and one of the conscripts have been notified of the charges against them. They are accused of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert.

At the same time, it is noted that, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Earlier, border guards from the Kyiv Border Guard Detachment, together with law enforcement officers, uncovered a scheme to illegally smuggle men across the border during martial law.

Operatives from the Department of Strategic Investigations dismantled an illegal border-crossing channel organized by a Kyiv resident through fictitious international music tours. The businesswoman submitted lists of band members to the relevant ministry, ostensibly for participation in charity performances in support of Ukraine.
