Zelenskyy spoke about his talks with Erdogan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided details of his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the talks, the two leaders discussed a range of issues, including preparations for the upcoming NATO summit and potential joint projects in the energy sector.
The head of state announced this during a meeting with media representatives.
One of the key topics of the talks between the two leaders was the upcoming NATO summit, which Turkey will host this year. Zelenskyy and Erdoğan discussed Ukraine’s role in this event, as well as the U.S. position on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
“We discussed the United States’ vision regarding our accession to the Alliance and the impact Russia has on these processes,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The Turkish president supported the idea of holding a trilateral meeting at the level of heads of state in Turkey. According to Zelenskyy, the next step should be negotiations on involving the Russian side in this format.
In addition to political issues, the leaders agreed on a shared interest in a major energy project, “Ukraine–Turkey.” The day after the meeting between the presidents, Serhiy Koretskyi, head of Naftogaz, already held talks with Turkey’s Minister of Energy.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with his Turkish counterparts to discuss a number of joint projects in the field of armaments.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has reached agreements with countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region. “We will be doing something similar in cooperation with Turkey,” the president added.
