In Vinnytsia Oblast, doctors were caught running a scheme to issue false medical certificates of unfitness for service
Law enforcement officials conducted more than 40 searches at medical facilities in the Vinnytsia region and uncovered schemes involving the fabrication of false diagnoses to obtain deferrals from mobilization. During the investigation, more than 2 million hryvnias in various currencies, medical records, and digital evidence of illegal activity were seized.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reports that the head of the department, a traumatologist, and the director of the medical facility have been charged with corruption and obstructing the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Among the uncovered incidents were surgeries performed on a patient’s healthy arm to obtain a deferment, as well as the issuance of fake medical reports stating the need for constant care and the processing of disability claims for money. The cost of the illegal services ranged from 16,000 UAH to $1,000 per document. Currently, other individuals involved are being identified, and the facts regarding the suspects’ acquisition of unjustified assets are being investigated.
