In Volyn, a city council member was selling deferrals from military service for 55,000 hryvnia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police have exposed a member of the Volodymyr City Council who organized a scheme to illegally obtain deferments from military service.

According to the investigation, the man also headed one of the departments at a local vocational college. He offered to help those subject to military conscription gain admission to the college as full-time students in exchange for money, which subsequently provided grounds for obtaining a deferment.

The cost of this “service” was 55,000 hryvnias per person.

Law enforcement officers detained the deputy immediately after he received the full amount of the illegal benefit.

He was notified of his status as a suspect under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—receipt of an illegal benefit by a public official.

A pretrial investigation is currently underway. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the scheme and identifying any other individuals who may be involved.
