In Transcarpathia, a retiree raped his young neighbors, who were sisters
Law enforcement officers in Zakarpattia have detained a 66-year-old retiree suspected of systematically raping two sisters. The crime came to light after the 14-year-old victim, during a course of psychological counseling, mustered the courage to tell her mother about her neighbor’s actions.
After contacting law enforcement, both sisters reported that their neighbor had been raping them for a long time. According to the victims, the assaults occurred systematically at his residence and in a utility room of the suspect’s apartment building.
The children are being interviewed in a safe environment with the assistance of a psychologist, following the “Barnahus” model. The court remanded the suspect in custody but set alternative bail at over 332,000 hryvnias. The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office, which has taken control of the investigation, is preparing an appeal against the decision on bail. The man faces 10 to 15 years in prison.
