Zelenskyy Wants to Fire Officials Over Water Problems in Marganets
There was no water in Marganets, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, for several days. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the situation shameful and stated that the official responsible for the problem would be fired. According to him, authorities at the local and regional levels were too slow to respond to people’s needs.
Zelenskyy reported that the prime minister has already made the necessary decisions regarding Marganets and other cities in the Dnipropetrovsk region. At the same time, the head of state sharply criticized how local authorities handled the problem. “It is also important that the Prime Minister has made the necessary decisions regarding Marganets and other cities in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The deplorable situation was caused by the lack of water there and a very slow response at the regional level—from the agencies responsible for water supply. The person responsible will be dismissed,” the president stated.
According to Zelenskyy, during wartime, local and regional authorities must respond much more quickly to problems that directly affect people’s lives. The president also expressed hope that, following this incident, officials will not wait until a problem becomes critical. “I expect that regional and local authorities will stay on their toes and respond much more quickly to the needs of Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy said.
He specifically emphasized that during a full-scale war, state and local authorities must work nonstop. “Wartime is a time for 24/7 work,” the president stressed.
What Is Known About the Water Situation
Water supply problems in Marganets lasted several days. As a result, the city’s residents were left without access to one of their basic services. The situation sparked outrage because, according to the president, the problem did not receive a sufficiently swift response at the regional level. This is not just about Marganets. Zelenskyy noted that necessary decisions were also made regarding other cities in the Dnipropetrovsk region where water problems arose.
The president did not specify exactly who is slated to be dismissed. At the same time, he explicitly stated that the official responsible for the situation will lose their position. Zelenskyy also made it clear that he expects local and regional authorities to respond more quickly to similar problems in the future. “Wartime is a time for working 24/7,” the head of state reiterated. In the Nikopol district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian troops launched a second strike against rescue workers who were clearing up the aftermath of the previous attack and extinguishing a fire.
