On September 24, this year’s campaign to stock rivers with salmonid species was completed in the water bodies of Transcarpathia. A total of 14,620 Danube salmon fry were released into the region’s mountain rivers. The Danube salmon, also known as the Danube huchen, is listed in Ukraine’s Red Book.

It is one of the salmonid species found in the waters of the Danube basin. This time, the fry were released into several rivers at once. The fish were stocked in the Black Tisa, Tisa, Teresva, Rika, and Tereblya rivers. The last section was stocked within the boundaries of the Synevyr National Nature Park.

The fry were raised at the “Lopushno” trout hatchery, which belongs to the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine. Each fry weighed approximately 5 grams. After being raised, they were transported to the designated bodies of water and released into their natural habitat. A special commission oversaw the stocking operation. Its members included, in particular, representatives of the Transcarpathian Fish Protection Patrol of the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries.

This marked the final stage of this year’s campaign to stock water bodies in the Carpathian region with salmonid species. Such measures are carried out to support and restore populations of valuable fish species in natural water bodies. In this case, the stocking was funded by the state budget. This was reported by
