In Zakarpattia, a female soldier did not show up for duty for two years and received more than ₴1.5 million
In Zakarpattia, authorities uncovered a scheme involving the unjustified payment of military pay to a female service member who had not actually been on active duty for two years. During that period, she received more than 1.5 million hryvnias.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), the former battalion commander knew that his subordinate had not been reporting to the military unit for a long time, but did not report this to the command.
“He allowed her to stay away from the military unit and concealed this fact from higher command. The former battalion commander explained to other service members that his subordinate was allegedly carrying out specific assignments at his direction. In reality, the 31-year-old female soldier was at her place of residence. She came to the military unit only from time to time to create the appearance of performing her duties,” the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) reported.
At the same time, the soldier continued to receive her pay despite her actual absence from duty.
The State Bureau of Investigation noted that another indictment against this same former commander was filed in February 2025.
He is accused of extorting money from his subordinates in exchange for not being deployed to combat zones.
Currently, both defendants face up to 10 years in prison.
