The wall of the main building of Kyiv National University will be restored in Kyiv

The wall of the main, “red,” building of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is scheduled to be restored by the winter of 2027.

“This wall is not just a fence, but a historic monument of national significance and part of Kyiv’s cultural heritage. In October 2022, it was damaged by a rocket strike. The first phase of work has been underway since June of this year—the design firm is developing the restoration plan, which will then be submitted for approval to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. We plan to complete this phase by November 2026,” Rozhko wrote on Facebook.

According to him, in the spring of 2027, when weather conditions become favorable for restoration work, the university will proceed directly to rebuilding the wall—with completion expected in the fall of that same year.

“At the same time, we managed to repair and secure the central entrance to the main building—which was also damaged by Russian shelling in 2022—before the start of the academic year. For a long time, it was partially closed off due to the threat of facade fragments collapsing and the risk of injury,” said the vice rector.

He emphasized that the goal is to preserve authenticity, restore lost elements, and ensure that the complex of historic buildings at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv continues to “serve future generations for many years to come.”

As previously reported, a photograph by Oleksandr Ryzhkov featuring a view of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv took second place in the world’s largest international photo contest of cultural heritage sites, “Wiki Loves Monuments,” in 2024.

This was announced by Oleksandr Rozhko, Vice Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work.

Four candidates are running for the position of rector at Taras Shevchenko National University—Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education and Science barred Volodymyr Bugrov from running in the election for rector of Kyiv National University, citing a court ruling on a corruption offense and applicable legal restrictions

On April 29, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dismissed Vladimir Bugrov, rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, due to the expiration of his contract.

The day before, the Sixth Kyiv City Court of Appeals upheld the lower court’s ruling in the case against Volodymyr Bugrov, rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, regarding false declarations.
