In Poland, officials who legalized Ukrainians in exchange for bribes are on trial
In Poland, three Polish citizens and their Ukrainian accomplice—including two former employees of the Lower Silesian Provincial Office—were sentenced for illegally facilitating the legalization of the stay of Ukrainian citizens.
Former officials Ewa K. and Dorota L., as well as their Ukrainian accomplice Inna A., were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1.5 to 2 years, while Beata T. received a one-year suspended sentence with a two-year probation period. All those convicted were ordered to pay fines, and the Ukrainian citizens who provided bribes to expedite the procedures were fined.
According to the investigation, the illegal scheme operated from January 2019 to January 2020 and involved the use of fake job offers. Employees of the department received financial benefits in zlotys, euros, and dollars for expediting the registration of documents and issuing decisions that legalized the foreigners’ stay. The prosecutor’s office classified the detainees’ actions as participation in an organized criminal group; however, the court rejected this classification, noting that although the activities were organized in nature, they did not constitute a criminal group.

Earlier in Kyiv, a 24-year-old law student was detained for offering men the opportunity to fictitiously “become students” at a Polish university for $10,000 in order to travel abroad.
