A scheme involving the illegal removal of more than 1,500 conscripts from the military registry was uncovered in Transcarpathia

Law enforcement officials uncovered a large-scale scheme to illegally remove conscripts from military registration, which operated from 2022 to 2024 at the Mukachevo District Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the Special Purpose Unit.

According to the investigation, the scheme was organized by the former head of the Military Registration and Enlistment Office and his subordinate. For $5,000–10,000, they entered false information into military registration and medical records, after which the men were deemed unfit for service without legal grounds.

The investigation established that 1,577 people were illegally removed from the military registry in this manner, 1,142 of whom were allegedly excluded on health grounds.

According to investigators, after facing the threat of exposure, the former head of the Military Registration and Enlistment Office drew up a fictitious report and destroyed medical certificates, Medical Examination Commission decisions, and other medical documentation that was required to be retained for 75 years.

Law enforcement officials have already conducted 17 searches, and two former officials have been notified of their status as suspects. Currently, 120 people have been reinstated in the military registry, and verification of the others is ongoing.
