A large-scale forest fire has been brought under control in the Zhytomyr region
In the Korosten District of Zhytomyr Oblast, rescue workers completely extinguished a large-scale forest fire that had been raging for several days. The fire was only brought under control after four days of continuous work by emergency services and foresters, who battled new hotspots. Drones were even deployed to monitor the situation from the air and prevent the fire from reigniting.
In the Korosten District of Zhytomyr Oblast, rescue workers have finally brought a forest fire under control; the blaze had spread across a large area and kept residents on edge for several days. The fire spread rapidly due to the heat, strong winds, and the challenging terrain, where fallen trees blocked access to some of the fire hotspots. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the firefighting efforts lasted four consecutive days and required constant work by rescue workers alongside forestry employees. The situation changed by the hour: some hotspots were successfully contained, while others flared up again due to the wind and dry vegetation.
Rescuers used drones to monitor the spread of the fire and prevent new outbreaks. From the air, they tracked even the smallest smoldering areas that could reignite and spread the fire to other sections of the forest. The State Emergency Service emphasized that this tactic made it possible not only to contain but also to completely extinguish the fires, preventing the affected area from expanding further. Currently, the area is still being inspected to ensure that no new hotspots remain.
Experts note that such fires, under conditions of heat and wind, pose an increased danger, as they can quickly spiral out of control and cause significant damage to the region’s ecosystem. This was reported by the State Emergency Service.
Russian strikes on gas stations and oil depots are increasingly targeting Ukraine’s fuel infrastructure. Against this backdrop, Volodymyr Poperechnyuk, co-founder of “Nova Poshta,” proposed revoking licenses for retail fuel sales in order to quickly establish more refueling stations and reduce risks to logistics.
