After the attack on Sumy, Sibiga called for increased pressure on Russia
Following a Russian guided airstrike on a residential building in Sumy, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on international partners to act more quickly. He emphasized that Ukraine needs new air defense systems, and that Russia must face even tougher sanctions and international pressure. According to the minister, the tragedy has once again shown that the Kremlin has no intention of ending the war.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reacted to the Russian airstrike on the center of Sumy, which killed civilians and injured dozens of people. In his view, this attack is further proof that Russia continues to deliberately target the civilian population and has no intention of ending the war.
In his statement, the minister published photos from the scene of the tragedy and reported that a Russian guided bomb struck a residential building. According to the latest reports, four people were killed and more than 30 others were injured.
Sybiga emphasized that Russia has long since ceased to distinguish between military targets and residential areas. “Russia has long since ceased to distinguish between military targets and residential areas. It strikes residential buildings in the middle of the night because it believes it can do so without consequences. Anyone who still believes that Russia can be persuaded to stop with words should look at Sumy,” the foreign minister said.

According to the minister, the international community must respond not only with statements of support but with concrete decisions. He emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs new air defense systems and more interceptor missiles to help protect Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks. “Every Russian attack sends the same message: Moscow has no intention of stopping this war… The world must respond with actions, not words. Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems and interceptors,” Sibiga said.
Separately, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy called on partners to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. In his view, only tough economic restrictions, international isolation, and constant political pressure can force the Kremlin to abandon the war. “Russia must face stronger sanctions, deeper isolation, and mounting pressure—until terror ceases to be a viable political tool for it. This is the only way to force Russia to end this war,” the minister concluded.
Russian troops attacked Sumy with guided aerial bombs, injuring an elderly woman. Damage to civilian infrastructure has been reported in the city, and emergency services are assessing the extent of the damage caused by the strike.
