The National Academy of Medical Sciences has contacted law enforcement regarding information about Lurin's citizenship

The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine has asked law enforcement agencies to investigate reports that its vice president, Igor Lurin, may hold Russian citizenship. The academy itself states that it has not conducted an internal investigation and is awaiting the official conclusions of the competent authorities. The Academy also emphasized that it is not currently considering Lurin as a candidate for the position of director of the Komissarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine contacted law enforcement agencies after reports emerged that the academy’s vice president, Igor Lurin, may hold Russian citizenship. This was announced by NAMN First Vice President Oleksandr Usenko.

According to him, the academy did not conduct its own internal investigation. The NAMN believes that establishing such facts is the responsibility of law enforcement and special state agencies, which possess the necessary authority and tools to verify such information. “We have contacted the relevant authorities and are awaiting an official response,” Usenko noted. He also added that he does not consider it appropriate to draw conclusions based solely on posts in Telegram channels or unverified reports online.

What questions have been raised regarding the vice president of the National Academy of Medical Sciences

The public outcry was sparked by reports that Ihor Lurin allegedly holds Russian citizenship and owns real estate in Russia. The posts also claimed that Lurin received a Russian passport back in 2004 during the general exchange of passports for former citizens of the USSR.

In addition, it was reported that he possesses a Russian tax identification number. There is currently no official confirmation of this information from law enforcement agencies or government bodies. That is why the NAMS decided to contact the competent authorities to obtain official conclusions and avoid any speculation surrounding this situation.

The NAMS responded to rumors about the new appointment

Separately, the academy commented on reports regarding the possible appointment of Igor Lurin as director of the Komissarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism. According to Oleksandr Usenko, such a candidate is not currently under consideration.

The academy emphasized that no decisions regarding Lurin’s appointment to this position have been made. This statement came amid the spread of information about a possible personnel decision, which was actively discussed in medical and public circles.

Who is Igor Lurin

Igor Lurin is a well-known specialist in the field of military medicine and medical support. Over the years, he has held leadership positions in the medical departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Presidential Administration. Lurin also served as an advisor to the Minister of Defense and participated in the development of policies related to medical support for the security and defense sectors.

Since 2021, he has served as vice president of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. In addition, according to publicly available information, Lurin participates in the work of expert groups and advisory bodies dealing with issues of national security and defense. This is precisely why information about the official’s possible foreign citizenship has sparked significant public interest.

Law enforcement agencies must provide a definitive answer

At this time, no official decisions or conclusions regarding the presence or absence of Russian citizenship in Igor Lurin have been made public. The National Academy of Medical Sciences emphasizes that it does not have the authority to independently establish such facts and relies on the results of the investigation by state agencies. Once the investigation is complete, it is up to law enforcement to answer the key question: whether the information circulating is true.

Until official results are available, the Academy urges the public to rely solely on confirmed data and refrain from drawing premature conclusions. “Investigating and establishing such circumstances falls within the jurisdiction of the relevant state agencies,” emphasized Oleksandr Usenko, First Vice President of the NAMS.
