MP Getmantsev effectively called for the resignation of NBU Governor Pyshny
Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada’s Finance Committee, stated that the National Bank’s independence cannot serve as an excuse for any crimes committed by the regulator’s leadership.
In his post, he emphasized that the NBU is “an independent institution and one that has undoubtedly established itself.”
“And we certainly respect the independence of the National Bank as an institution. The National Bank can and does use its powers to regulate relevant relations without any external influence,” Getmantsev wrote.
At the same time, the lawmaker stressed that the institution’s political independence does not mean a lack of accountability for its leadership.
“It is a mistake to perceive the institution’s political independence as a license for its leadership to commit crimes, including those aimed at laundering proceeds obtained through criminal means and tax evasion,” he stated.
Getmantsev also added that “these axioms are obvious and understandable to everyone, including NBU Governor Pyshny, who understood the risks of unlawful activity and its inevitable consequences.”
The National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rate for Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The U.S. dollar once again reached a new all-time high, surpassing the previous record set on May 25 (44.26 hryvnia).
For comparison, the day before (May 26), the official exchange rates were 44.24 hryvnia per dollar and 51.52 hryvnia per euro.
The total amount of deposits held by individuals and sole proprietors in Ukrainian banks increased by 40.1 billion hryvnia in April, reaching 1.68 trillion hryvnia.
