The NBU ordered Ukrposhta to dismiss Smiliansky
The National Bank of Ukraine has determined that Igor Smiliansky, CEO of JSC “Ukrposhta,” does not meet the professional qualifications required of a manager of a financial payment services provider.
The regulator has officially ordered the postal company to immediately suspend the official from his duties.
The relevant resolution was adopted by the Committee on Banking Supervision and Regulation and Payment Infrastructure Oversight.
The main reason for this drastic step was the unsatisfactory results of the NBU’s supervisory activities regarding Ukrposhta’s operations, which were conducted between 2023 and 2026.
The regulator stated that over this extended period, it had imposed financial fines and issued written warnings to the company on several occasions.
The sanctions were imposed due to systematic violations in the areas of payment services and financial monitoring, as well as serious deficiencies in risk management and internal controls.
Based on the results of the inspections, the NBU concluded that Smiliansky lacks a sufficient level of knowledge of the law and experience in its application to properly manage the company as a provider of financial payment services.
The state-owned enterprise is required to respond promptly to the decision of the country’s financial regulator.
“Within five business days, the authorized body of JSC ‘Ukrposhta’ must remove Igor Smiliansky from the leadership of JSC ‘Ukrposhta,’ and within the next two months, appoint a new head,” the statement reads.
