In the Zhytomyr region, a former director of a state-owned enterprise organized gabbro-related schemes worth ₴71 million
In the Zhytomyr region, a former director of a state-owned enterprise has been notified of his status as a suspect in a case involving the illegal extraction and sale of gabbro, which resulted in losses to the state amounting to 71 million hryvnias.
According to the investigation, the state-owned enterprise, which holds a special permit for subsoil use, was extracting rock outside the licensed boundaries of the Bystriivskyi deposit in Zhytomyr Oblast.
The rock in question is gabbro—a mineral resource of national importance used in construction and the production of facing materials.
Law enforcement officials also uncovered another scheme: officials were selling gabbro blocks at below-market prices by misclassifying high-quality products as substandard. As a result, the company lost significant profits, while buyers received raw materials at prices below market value.
According to the findings of an audit by the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine, more than 6,200 cubic meters of rock were illegally extracted outside the permitted area.
Expert assessments confirmed total losses to the state amounting to 71 million UAH, of which:
- 47.3 million UAH — illegal extraction of mineral resources
- 23.8 million UAH — losses from the sale of products at below-market prices
During the investigation, law enforcement officers conducted searches and seized documentation that, according to their findings, confirms the illegal activity.
