The Parliament is preparing to increase fines for speeding

The Verkhovna Rada is drafting a bill that would significantly increase penalties for speeding on Ukrainian roads.

Currently, the following fines are in effect in Ukraine: 340 UAH for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h and 1,700 UAH for exceeding it by more than 50 km/h.

The new bill, developed jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police, proposes introducing a tiered scale of fines:

  • over 20 km/h — 680 UAH;
  • over 40 km/h — 2,040 UAH;
  • over 60 km/h — 2,720 UAH;
  • over 80 km/h — 3,400 UAH.

Separately, it is proposed to increase penalties for repeated violations.

“A fine of 17,000 UAH is provided for repeated speeding violations (five or more times per year), noted Vasylevska-Smaglyuk.

The initiative is currently in the drafting stage and requires consideration by parliament.

This was reported by Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, a member of parliament from the “Servant of the People” party.

In the first five months of 2026, automatic weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems for freight vehicles recorded 1,388 violations totaling 19.2 million UAH.

The Ukrainian government is working to increase penalties for drivers who systematically violate traffic rules. The new changes may include stricter fines, particularly for habitual speeding.
