The NEURC has raised the electricity transmission rate
The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP) has approved a decision to increase the electricity transmission tariff. Starting August 1, 2026, the rate will increase by 25% to 928.45 UAH per megawatt-hour, excluding VAT.
According to the regulator’s decision:
- the electricity transmission tariff will be 928.45 UAH/MWh, excluding VAT;
- a preferential tariff of 563.26 UAH/MWh has been established for “green” electrometallurgy enterprises.
The new tariff includes a separate component for the fulfillment of special obligations (PSO) related to increasing the share of electricity from alternative sources.
This component will amount to 365.19 UAH per megawatt-hour.
In calculating the tariff, the NEURC took into account 89.55 million megawatt-hours of projected electricity transmission volume.
The NEURC emphasizes that the decision does not imply an automatic increase in electricity rates for residential consumers.
This applies exclusively to the tariff for electricity transmission via the main grids of NEC “Ukrenergo,” which is paid by electricity suppliers and large industrial consumers.
For the general public, the current electricity rate remains unchanged.
The regulator explained the tariff revision by citing several key reasons:
- rising exchange rates, which have increased the financial burden on “Ukrenergo,” particularly when settling accounts with producers of “green” electricity;
- a reduction in electricity transmission volumes;
- the liberalization of price caps, which has forced the company to spend more on purchasing electricity for its own operational needs.
Back on July 7, the NEURC had preliminarily approved the tariff at the same level, but final approval was postponed due to a legislative conflict.
The issue arose due to the wording of Law No. 4834-IX on market coupling, which prohibited the inclusion of special obligations in Ukrenergo’s tariff, even though this provision was not scheduled to take effect until January 1, 2030.
Subsequently, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the legislation (Bill No. 14067), which were signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. After resolving this conflict, the NEURC was able to finally approve the new tariff.
This is evidenced by the NEURC’s decision.
Starting in June 2026, water utilities in various regions of Ukraine began revising their tariffs for water supply and wastewater services.
