The Office of the Prosecutor General is investigating an attack on SBU employees
On September 2, the Office of the Prosecutor General launched a pretrial investigation following an armed attack on SBU employees. Criminal proceedings were initiated on charges of threats and attempts on the lives of law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred during urgent investigative actions as part of a case involving a terrorist act which, according to law enforcement officials, was organized by the FSB. SBU officers were conducting a search at one of the addresses to collect and secure evidence.
During the investigative operations, a group of individuals carried out an armed attack on the SBU’s operational-investigative team. The attackers attempted to obstruct the search and blocked the law enforcement officers’ passage with their vehicles.
To stop the attack and ensure the safety of those involved in the investigative operations, a special unit from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center was deployed to the scene. Law enforcement officers used their weapons to quell the armed resistance.
As a result of the incident, some of those who resisted were injured. The attackers were detained. During initial investigative actions, law enforcement officers determined that the detainees belong to one of the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Weapons and documents were seized from them.
The Office of the Prosecutor General notes that all circumstances of the incident and the role of each participant are currently being established, and the final legal classification of their actions is being determined. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.
As a reminder, a shooting occurred in Kyiv, and security forces were spotted at the scene.
