In Transcarpathia, a SUV driver was detained for attacking tourists near Lake Apshynets
In Transcarpathia, law enforcement officers detained a 47-year-old resident of the village of Hrushevo in the Tyachiv District, who is believed to be the most active participant in the attack on tourists near Lake Apshynets. Preliminary investigative procedures are currently being conducted with the detainee, and measures are being taken to identify other individuals involved in the incident.
The incident occurred near the high-altitude Apshynets Lake in the Carpathians. The driver of a Nissan Patrol drove through thickets of relict alpine dwarf pine directly to the lake’s shore and drove into a spring.
After the tourists pointed out the violation of the protected area’s regulations and the ban on swimming, the vehicle’s passengers began to behave aggressively. According to the investigation, the man struck a tourist with a rock and then delivered a series of blows with a metal hiking pole. The attackers also damaged the tourists’ tents and equipment.

Activists identified the man who, in late August, instigated a conflict with tourists near the high-altitude Apshynets Lake in Transcarpathia. According to their information, the driver of the SUV was local businessman Yosyp Varga.
