The organizer of an illegal operation to smuggle men abroad has been sentenced to seven years in prison

A court found a 46-year-old resident of the Kirovohrad region guilty of facilitating the illegal crossing of Ukraine’s state border. Following a public indictment by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the man was sentenced to seven years in prison with confiscation of property. The sentence also includes a three-year ban on providing logistics services and passenger transportation in border areas.

Prosecutors proved that in July 2024, the defendant devised a scheme to smuggle draft-age individuals to EU countries via Transnistria. He priced his services at $10,000, assuring clients that he had the necessary connections to ensure unimpeded passage along the route.

The perpetrator was detained on September 28, 2024, in a café while receiving another installment of the advance payment and providing instructions on crossing the border. The court’s decision has now taken legal effect, and the convicted individual has begun serving his sentence.

Recently, the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, dismantled eight new schemes for evading mobilization and detained their organizers in various regions of the country.

Additionally, a court ordered the seizure of over 48 million hryvnias from an official at the Environmental Inspection.
