The monument to Konovalets will be preserved at his family estate in the Lviv region
The monument, which stood for 87 years on Yevhen Konovalets’ grave in Rotterdam, has been transported to his native village of Zashkiv in the Lviv region.
The original 1939 headstone will be installed on the grounds of the Yevhen Konovalets Museum-Estate. It was designed by Ukrainian artist Oksana Lyaturynska, and Robert Lisovsky, the creator of the OUN emblem, contributed to its production and installation.
The monument survived World War II and was cared for over the decades by the Ukrainian community in the Netherlands.
Earlier, Konovalets’ remains were exhumed in Rotterdam. On August 13, his ashes were transported to Ukraine with military honors. After the necessary procedures, he will be reburied at the National Military Memorial Cemetery.

The ashes of Yevhen Konovalets, a colonel in the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the first head of the OUN, have been transported to Ukraine.
As a reminder, a historic reburial took place at the National Military Memorial Cemetery for Colonel Andriy Melnyk of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, head of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnyk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted Bill No. 15360, “On the Ukrainian National Pantheon,” to the Verkhovna Rada. The head of state officially announced this initiative on June 28 at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra during his traditional address on the occasion of Ukraine’s Constitution Day.
